Position - H&S Buyer

HARDGOODS & SOILS BUYER

Training To begin Early April, 2025

Schedule

  • Part Time, Year-Round

  • Proposed Ranges:

    • Nov-Mar: 25-35 hours per week

    • Apr-Jun: 40-45 hours per week

    • Jul-Oct: 25-30 hours per week

  • Training starts Early April

General Responsibilities

  • Forecast and Order all Hardgoods & Soil Products for all Mother Earth Gardens locations

  • Physically visit all locations on a weekly basis 

  • Create or Update product in existing POS system

  • Maintain stock levels at and between all locations

  • Coordinate deliveries with vendors and stores/managers

  • Resolve issues with product and deliveries, sometimes requiring immediate attention

  • Collaborate with Managers to organize and upkeep overstock areas

  • Develop and maintain product lines consistent with protocol and branding

  • Follow up with issues and invoicing

  • Fashion and implement signage and informational materials for products

  • Coordinate and communicate with Managers/Merchandiser/Webstore/Marketing to effectively display and sell seasonally appropriate products

  • Participate in Leadership Team meetings and inventory process

  • Develop training or educational systems on product for staff with Managers

  • Attend two trade shows in September

  • Report to and seek feedback from General Manager & Owners

Required Attributes and Skills

  • Exceptional time management and the ability to follow through

  • Confidence and command of:

    • Mac-based laptops and desktops, and their applications

    • Google suite

    • Digital intra-office communications

  • Effective communicator

  • Interest and skill in identifying trends

  • Independent while being Team oriented

  • Able to problem solve under pressure

  • Organized

  • Able to delegate

  • Able to see big picture but keen on details

  • Creative

  • Ability to use basic tools; handy-person skills

  • Good Eye for display set up

  • Good working knowledge of general gardening practices and plants

  • Ability to work long hours with a flexible schedule

  • Needs reliable device such as a smartphone for text and web based communication

  • Needs reliable transportation to move self and minimal product to and from locations

Desired Bonus Skills

  • Experience in retail or garden center

  • Prior buyer experience

  • Gardening experience, either personal or professional

Rate

  • $17.00/hour Training rate (through June 30th, 2025)

  • $17.75/hour Regular rate (starting July 1st, 2025)

  • Mileage reimbursement for personal automobile use on job
